WOW! Stampin' Up! Butterfly Mobile

I love love love love love love love love love love love love love this.

Now this would come as a surprise to anyone who knows me, because I don't really like butterflies. *GASP* I know - wierd, huh? I had some realllly funky 70s butterfly wallpaper in my room when I was little, and I blame it all on that. So it is odd that I am drawn to this project - but these butterflies aren't scary. They are adorable. Now I know that this sample showcases retired colors/papers - however Stampin' Up! always has sucha  great collection of papers and colors to choose from, I am sure you could find one to coordinate with your nursery....or can you imagine what a jaw dropping gift this would make?

Butterfly Mobile

Paper Kiwi Kiss card stock Rose Red card stock Kiwi Kiss textured card stock Rose Red textured card stock Raspberry Tart Designer Series paper Accessories & Tools Crop-A-Dile Sizzix Big Shot Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die Sticky Strip Embroidery hoop (ours is 10" in diameter) Monofilament thread  (such as fishing line)

Instructions

These supplies and instructions are for general guidelines only.

1. Punch four evenly spaced holes in wood embroidery hoop using Crop-A-Dile. 
2. Cut two pieces of monofilament thread, each at least four times the diameter of your hoop. This ensures that you have enough thread to go through the hoop and squarely hang your mobile. For example, we cut 40" pieces.
3. Pull one piece of monofilament thread through each set of holes, so thread crosses in the center of the hoop. Gather ends, and knot them together at the top. This will be what your mobile hangs from.
4. Hang your embroidery hoop within easy reach, and shift the hoop on the thread until it is level and centered. You'll want to leave it hanging while you finish assembly.
5. Tie several strands of thread, evenly spaced, to embroidery hoop to hang butterflies from. The number of strands and the length of each strand are entirely up to you. Remember to knot your thread on the outside of the hoop so your finished mobile will have a clean look. 
6. Cut butterflies from Designer Series paper and card stock (you'll need two die cuts for each butterfly) using Big Shot and Beautiful Butterfly Bigz die.
7. Attach the same number of butterflies to each strand, making sure to put a butterfly at the end of each strand. This will give your mobile a clean finish and help it hang straight.
8. Score each butterfly down the middle and bend slightly.
9. Adhere Sticky Strip to the center of one butterfly and press it against the thread, and then press another butterfly against the Sticky Strip (so the butterflies cover the thread and Sticky Strip.)
10. Adhere two pieces of Kiwi Kiss textured card stock to the embroidery hoop, covering knots.
11. Carefully remove your mobile from its temporary hanging place, and hang it wherever you desire!

Instructions

1. Pierce holes along bottom edge of large Very Vanilla card stock piece (3-1/4" x 2-1/2") using paper-piercing tool and Mat Pack.
2. Stamp round cake image in Ruby Red and Soft Suede ink on individual pieces of Very Vanilla card stock (1-1/2" x 1-1/2" each). Cut out, and adhere to large Very Vanilla card stock piece.
3. Ink "S" on "Sweet" portion of word block image using Ruby Red Stampin' Write marker, and stamp letter over top portion of Ruby Red cake, overlapping onto large Very Vanilla card stock piece. Repeat with remaining letters in "Sweet", being careful to remove ink from previously stamped letter before proceeding to next.
4. Stamp round cake image in Soft Suede ink on Soft Suede card stock, and cut off bottom portion of image. Flip piece over, and adhere over bottom portion of Ruby Red cake using Stampin' Dimensionals so that no polka-dots can be seen.
5. Stamp "Thinking of you" in Soft Suede ink on Very Vanilla card stock (1-1/2" x 1/2"), and cut out letters to spell "on you." Adhere letters over polka-dots on bottom portion of Soft Suede cake.
6. Ink cherry image using Old Olive and Ruby Red Stampin' Write markers, and stamp image on scrap paper. Cut out, and adhere to top of Soft Suede cake. You can use a rolled up Mini Glue Dot to achieve additional dimension.
7. Create tag from Old Olive card stock (1-1/2" x 2-1/2") using Tag Corner punch. Punch circle from Old Olive card stock (2" x 2") using 3/4" Circle punch. Adhere to top of tag so that portion hangs over edge, and trim. Tie crochet thread through Whisper White flower button, and adhere button to top of tag.
8. Adhere tag to back side of large Very Vanilla piece (left edge). Adhere both pieces to Ruby Red card.
9. Ink scallop portion of pedestal image using Old Olive Stampin' Write marker, and stamp image on Very Vanilla card stock (1-5/8" x 1/2"). Repeat on second piece of same size. Cut out both pieces, and overlap ends to form one long scallop. Adhere pieces together. You should have a row of 11 scallops.
10. Punch 11 holes from Very Vanilla card stock (3" x 3/4") using 1/8" hole punch in Crop-A-Dile. Adhere circles to "holes" in Old Olive scallop piece. Adhere scallop piece to card using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Instructions

1. Adhere Soft Suede 1/2" polka-dot grosgrain ribbon to card, polka-dot side facing down.
2. Adhere octagonal Designer Delights Décor Stencil to Natural Ivory card stock. Sponge Mellow Moss and Soft Suede ink over stencil using sponge daubers. Remove stencil. Pierce holes around pattern using paper-piercing tool and Mat Pack. Sew Natural Ivory card stock to Soft Suede textured card stock. Adhere to card.
3. Adhere brocade stencil to Natural Ivory card stock. Sponge Really Rust ink over stencil using sponge dauber. Repeat. Cut out brocade pieces and layer, attaching through the center with an Antique Brass brad. Adhere to card.
4. Stamp "Thank you" in Soft Suede ink on card.
5. Lightly spatter Always Artichoke ink over card using Color Spritzer Tool.

1. Apply antiquing medium to pots. Let dry.
2. Adhere Designer Delights Décor Stencil to pots using stencil adhesive. Apply stencil paste over stencil using palette knife or spatula. Remove stencil and let dry. Repeat for each stenciled image.
3. Apply acrylic paint to pots using stamping sponges. 
4. Spatter Really Rust ink over pots using Color Spritzer Tool.
5. Apply Pearl Glaze to pots. Let dry.
