My Convention Swaps Card 2, Stampin' Up! Convention

Okee dokee - i hope you are enjoying my swap cards and a little more about them.

This ones was my digital remake of a card in the 2011-2012 Idea book and Catalog. I loved it, and knew I could do it justice. What I didn't realize when I started was how detailed this on would really be!

So, at first glance it seems like a fairly simple card. the background in Calypso Coral - LOVE this color. I made the white scallop square using like 8 or 9 scallop square punches. I layered them on top of each other rather than enlarging it so that I didn't mess up the size of the scallops. Then I layered a Lucky Limeade square punch on top, and being as the grid stamp wasn't available yet, I used the lines stamp also in Lucky Limeade with a drop shadow, then another one, rotated. Being as the flowers are stamps, the background shows through, so...behind the Wisteria Wonder flower from the Printed Petals set is a bunch of white filled ovals. Then behind the Riding Hood Red (?) flower is the scallop oval punch, then more white oval punches, then the Calypso Coral flower, then a white circle, then the Lucky Limeade Flower....whew....still reading? Make sense?

The saying is from Messages from Mom, but is a "one line" stamp. Being as I wanted a two line sentiment, I "stamped" it twice, lined it up and then cropped out what I didn't want with a Calypso Coral square punch. Whew....

It was fun to think outside the box a little to make a traditional card come to life digitally.

MDS Blog Hop!!!! It's a Birthday Party!

 
I so hope that you enjoyed our blog hop last week! I know I had a lot of fun seeing what the other designers came up with. There were some out of this world pages!

This week we were invited to create projects with a BIRTHDAY theme. Did you see all the cute new birthday downloads available for MDS this week? Too Fun!

Anyhow....now, I have 3 adorable boys. I love them to pieces. I LOVE having boys and I never really felt like I NEED a daughter. Girls can be great, but I am completely fulfilled with my boys. Especially because I have a beautiful niece and lots of friends with little girls. Now, of course, I do not have ANY of my boys birthdays scrapbooked yet. I KNOW! I'll get there.

I took these photos for my good friend a few weeks ago for her daughter's amazing birthday party and I thought it would be fun to try my hand with PINK. PINK and I have a love hate relationship. I really don't use it very often, and as you can see, I still couldn't get "too girly" with it. The part of me that makes me - well ME had to use black to balance the pink. I can do pink if it is mixed with a LOT of another neutral color like Whisper White or Chocolate Chip Brown.

 

Did I do it? Did I pull it off ok? I really hope she likes it and isn't freaked out by all the black :)

 The background is Pink Pirouette with the Vintage Overlay stamp brush in Blushing Bride (might be a little hard to see). I also used - Bring on the Cake (birthday and "4"), Nursery Alphabet Images (crown), Calendar Basics (balloon), and I also used the dotted circle from Enjoy Every Moment as a guide for the Basic Rhinestones in the circle. The font I used is CK Fancy Cat

My Convention Swaps - card 1

I created four cards to swap at this year's Stampin' Up! Convention. Surprise, surprise, they were created on My Digital Studio! I posted them on mydigitalstudio.net, but I thought I would post more info on here. Honestly, I meant to do it while I was in SLC, but where I was staying I had no internet connection, all my posting was via my phone.

  I absolutely LOVE this image from the new catalog. It's from the Forever Young stamp brush set and the papers are from the Timeless Portrait collection. I LOVE the color combination, but then again, I LOVE Cherry Cobbler. This was a very popular swap for me, and I think the first one I ran out of!

This is a good "go-to" layout for me, and does a great job of showcasing a strong image. I also like it to highlight a "one sheet wonder" style image.

I like being able to do things on my "digi-swap" cards that I couldn't do on a traditional swap. I would never put three rows of seam binding and three vintage buttons on my swaps. I also love being able to resize my little tree so it fits just how I want it to!

Guest Blogger on My Digital Studio . net!!!!

Yessers! You saw that right! The last few weeks have been amazing for me. Being asked to be in a blog hop alongside the talents of the ladies in the design group and being asked by Andrea Bowden, Digital Product Specialist at Stampin’ Up! to be a guest blogger on www.MyDigitalStudio.net . 2011 My Year to GROW with Stampin' Up!

So, I know I told you my story about my 5 year walk at Convention this year, but I felt that I needed more than just a slideshow of photos to share my special moment. I received an email from another Demonstrator - Sherrill Graff with a card sketch on it, so I used that as my inspiration. I wanted to play around with the lovely new download designed for Convention Attendees, so it seemed like the right time to focus on me. Not something I tend to do. With that said, here is what I came up with...

 
 I used the Convention Kit papers. The background is a paper, then two square punches filled with more papers from the kit. The ribbon is the new 2011 In Color Ruffled Ribbon in Wisteria Wonder. The little butterlies I used as little tage were embellishments in the kit. Anyone who knows me, knows that I do not like butterflies...so it us a little funny that I would have a scrapbook page featuring me with butterflies on it. I also used the GROW Convention stamp and "colored in" some of the flowers by placing color filled punches behind the stamp. I also used a polka dot butterfly from the embellishments behind the letter "R" flower for a touch of whimsy. The cool scrolly-flowery thingy in the top right corner is an embellishment included in the kit and just gorgeous! This page is very me. I love pairing black with the softer colors...I love the little "pop' it gives.

MDS Blog Hop

OMG! Can I tell you how seriously excited I am to be part of this AMAZING group. I was jumping up and down when I was invited...someone thought I was good enough to be included in this talented
collection of MDS designers!
If you are starting here, I can not wait for you to see what else the rest of our Blog Hop/ Design Team has come up with. All of us are designing this week with the so fun theme of
BACK TO SCHOOL!
I know that a lot of the U.S. has started back to school or will be in the next week, but here we won't start school
until the end of the month. I don't even know my boy's teachers yet. Although I do have my fingers crossed :)



I thought about looking back at last year's photos, but then I thought about what I would want to do for this year. I have seen this cute tradition that a lot of families do of their kids holding up a sign with what grade they are starting, so that is what I started with, these are for my boys to hold up when we take our annual First Day of School pictures. Now I won't have to worry about remembering what year is which!

 
 

 I also added the next two pages so that I would have a quick and easy way to record a little more about them on their first day. I always intend to record this stuff, but it unfortunately has usually ended with just that - intentions.

 

 

 The last project is a coordinating Thank You card design. I plan on having some printed as a gift for their teachers to use this year when they get all of their little Teacher Gifts!

 

My goal was for the look of a chalkboard on a book page - although I don't think our school has a single chalkboard, I think they are all white-boards. I used the First Edition and Well Worn Designer Papers and the new A is for Apple and School Colors stamp brush sets.For the crayons I layered a punch in a slightly lighter color behind the stamp.
